If you want to fully incarnate your leadership capacity, the first thing is to be clear that you understand what leadership is about; defined by the GLOBE study as,
“the ability of an individual to influence, motivate and enable others to contribute to the effectiveness and success of the organizations of which they are members”
it is not about being in charge, it is not about telling people what to do, it is not about having the best idea and it is not about having all the answers
Leadership is, about influencing others to contribute to the effectiveness and success of the organizations of which they are members
If you are forcing people to do something against their wishes – you are not engaging in leadership
If you are defending your idea “bec et ongle” (French expression) because you think it is the best idea – you are not engaging in leadership
Etc.
Having understood what leadership is about, there are four areas you need to concentrate on
Grow your leadership influence by growing your ability to influence people intellectually, emotional, physically and spiritually
Develop your leadership attitude by developing your self-confidence to take on the challenge and your self-control to achieve your commitments
Build your leadership energy by firing up your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual energies
Raise your leadership awareness by getting feedback to ensure that your determination & discipline are not seen not as stubbornness & dogmatism and that your spontaneity & accommodation are not seen as impulsivity & acquiescing
